Electronic Structure of Transition Metal Compoundsobtained within a multi-band Hubbard model. Ground states of these oxides have been found to be highly mixed valent and a related ternary oxide, NdNiO., is shown to be an example of a covalent insulator. It is suggested that . band structure calculations may provide an interesting starting point for discussing electronic struturs in these systems.
