In β-chitin, the chains of monomer are tightly arranged in parallel to each other, whereas γ-chitin has a mixed arrangement of both α- and β-chitin. Chitosan is closer to α-chitin. Based on the spectroscopic analysis, comprehensive intermolecular structural information related to chitin and chitosan has been discussed.
