Chitosan Characterization,Chitosan is one of the most abundant natural polymers synthesized by the deacetylation of chitin. Chitin is a major component of crustacean shells and is available in abundance in nature. The physical and chemical properties of chitin and chitosan are discussed in this chapter.

Applications of Chitosan in Fuel Cells,Polymer electrolyte membranes play an important role in a fuel cell. Chitosan-based polyelectrolyte membrane can be used in fuel cells as a substitute for conventional Nafion membrane. This chapter discusses the types of different fuel cells and the performance of various chitosan-based polyelectrolyte membranes in fuel cells.

Chitosan-Based Sensors,al applications is reviewed. Chitosan can be crosslinked with a targeted compound to modify its physical, chemical, and electrical properties. The fabrication of various chitosan-based biosensors and their electrochemical reaction mechanisms are briefly discussed.
