Asymmetries Between Reading and Writing for Japanese Children-way asymmetry has been discovered with children who can spell a few words which they cannot read (Bradley and Bryant, 1980; Bradley, 1985). In the early stages of learning written words, children using a visual strategy for reading and a phonological strategy for spelling develop unexpected reading problems (Bradley, 1985).
