Guanine Nucleotide-Binding Proteins and Their Coupling to Opioid Receptorsh are distinct from the receptor molecule (Pfeuffer 1977; Hildebrandt et al. 1983). Although many of the components involved in this phenomenon have been well characterized, questions about the exact molecular mechanism, the specificity of the system, and its adaptive regulation are still unresolved.
