Measuring Activation Energies for Ion Transport Using Tethered Bilayer Lipid Membranes (tBLMs),Model lipid bilayers tethered to a gold substrate with molecular tethers are constructed. The conductance versus temperature dependence curve is then obtained. Here, a method to measure the activation energy for translocation of an ion through existing transmembrane pores in a sparsely tethered bilayer lipid membranes is presented.

Establishing a Lipid Bilayer for Molecular Dynamics Simulations,Lipid bilayers play a very important role in every living organism. Generating a computer model for simulations provides a molecular scale picture that can unveil information difficult to obtain using traditional experiments. Here, a procedure to generate a computer model of a stable lipid bilayer structure is discussed.
