描述This Open Access edited collection seeks to improve collaboration between criminal justice and welfare services in order to help prepare offenders for life after serving a prison sentence. It examines the potential tensions between criminal justice agencies and other organisations which are involved in the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders, most notably those engaged in mental health care or third sector organisations. It then suggests a variety of different methods and approaches to help to overcome such tensions and promote inter-agency collaboration and co-working, drawing on emerging research and models, with a focus on the practice in European and Scandinavian countries. For academics and practitioners working in prisons and the penal system, this collection will be invaluable. .

People in Contact with Criminal Justice Systems Participating in Service Redesign: Vulnerable Citizehich the inclusion of hidden and potentially vulnerable voices of those citizens involved with CJS can assist the transformative development of services by irritating the normative perspectives. We advocate an approach based around critical ethnography as a means of sitting with and walking besides people intimately involved in CJS.

Mirrors of Prison Life—From Compartmentalised Practice Towards Boundary Crossing Expertiseealth and prison services. A key finding is that the tensions emerging during the activities between the service providers are historically accumulated and caused by the inflexible division of labour and the lack of interagency expertise. New models to enable the crossing of the organizationel boundaries between parties are thus needed.

Facilitation of Developmental Tasks in Prisons: Applying the Method of Human-Centred Co-evaluationison officers introduced to advance their work (recording the inmates’ behaviour and needs into their sentence plans) are illustrated.
