Lithium dosage and prophylaxis. A double-blind controlled studyd in both unipolar and bipolar patients..It was concluded that a once-a-day dosage with a sustained release lithium preparation that maintained a 12-hour plasma level of about 0.6 mmol/1 is both more effective and produces less side effects than does conventional dosages.

Practical value of biological and physchological indicators in predicting response to lithium prophythought to be a heterogeneous condition from a biological point of view, the identification of specific features of lithium responsive and non-responsive patients would be also of theoretical interest, bringing to further understanding of the pathophysiology of the illness.
