描述.This book discusses the multiple systems that make commercial jet travel safe and convenient. The author starts by tracing the evolution of commercial jets from the Boeing 707 to the double decker Airbus A380. The next 7 chapters discuss flight controls, along with the high lift surfaces (flaps and slats) that are essential to allow high speed, low drag aircraft to take-off and land. The other systems include Engines/Nacelles, Cabin Pressurization and Air Conditioning systems, Landing Gear and brakes, Fuel Systems, Instruments/Sensors, and finally Deicing systems for the wings, nacelles and external air speed sensors. Case studies describe a significant accident that arose from a failure in the various systems described. The final chapter summarizes the past 60 years of jet travel and describe how these systems have created a cheaper, safer mode of travel than any other..

Finally, the chapter provides insight into the hydraulic systems used to apply brake pressure and the tremendous energy dissipated and heat built up during a typical braking event upon landing.

Martina De Castro,Umberto Zona,Fabio Boccillowed them full visual access to their surroundings as well as auditory monitoring of their propeller and powerplant. In addition, their “cockpit” (they were laying down on the wing) had a stop watch, engine tachometer, and anemometer (for measuring air velocity).

Culturally Appropriate Assessmentft. This chapter details the takeoff accident at Paris’s Charles De Gaulle airport that resulted in the loss of a Concorde. The ultimate root cause can be traced to the landing gear impacting a small piece of runway debris, generating a breach in one of the fuel tanks and fire that affected engines and the wing.

Culturally Appropriate Assessmentbe measuring airspeed). The resulting ice buildup on the speed sensor produced a problem for the flight control computer which was exacerbated by copilot input. The resulting loss of control meant the entire aircraft, passengers, and crew were lost.
