Catalysts, Ligands and Reagents,Although several transition metal catalysts are commercially available, one may prefer to make them oneself if larger quantities are needed. The procedures described in this chapter are taken from the literature, but in some of them modifications have been introduced in order to facilitate their performance.

Copper(I)-Halide-Catalyzed Oxidative Coupling of Acetylenes,More than a century ago Glaser described the oxidation with air of phenylacetylene to diphenylbutadiyne [1]. The original procedure using preformed copper acetylide has evolved to a number of variants in which the acetylene is oxidized with oxygen or air in the presence of . amounts of copper (I)halide.
