Parallel Preconditioned Solvers for Large Sparse Hermitian Eigenproblemshead is reduced by grouping inner products and norm computations within the QMR and the JD iteration. The efficiency of these strategies is demonstrated on the massively parallel systems NEC Cenju-3 and Cray T3E.

Parallel 3D Airflow Simulation on Workstation Clusters on 3 clusters of computers connected by different LANs : an Ethernet LAN of SUN SPARCstation, an ATM LAN of SUN SPARCstation and a Myrinet LAN of PCs. The last one was the less expensive and gave the best timing results and super-linear speedup.

Introduction to “Eigenvalue Problems and Solution of Linear Systems” plants, simulation of electronic circuits, quantum chemistry, structural mechanics, etc. Issues covered include, among others, algorithm modifications for particular architectures, use of parallel preconditioning techniques, direct and iterative linear solvers and eigensolvers. What follows is a general overview of the articles in this chapter.

Some Unusual Eigenvalue Problems forms. These algorithms reference the matrix in question only through a matrix-vector product operation. Hence it is well suited for large sparse problems. Some selected numerical examples are presented to illustrate the efficiency of such an approach.
