Protein Interactions with Microballoons: Consequences for Biocompatibility and Application as Contrloons (gas-filled polymer-shelled devices that are being developed as contrast agents for theranostic applications) with plasma proteins are investigated, and the potential consequences for long term biocompatibility are discussed.

Bubble Behavior Testing (BBT) System for Ultrasound Contrast Agent Characterization,ank, is shown to be useful to characterize the UCA by observing their response to ultrasound force. Coupling of the BBT system to a synchronized high-speed optical camera is finally demonstrated to be capable of tracking the echoes of a single deflating bubble, i.e. with variable diameter.

As UCAs are designed for parenteral administration, the time response of the primary immune system, mainly macrophages, should be addressed.
