Topology and Generalized Layout Optimization of Elastic StructuresAn overview of the method of homogenization to find the optimum layout of a linearly elastic structure is presented. The work discussed here presents a formulation to address the simultaneous optimization of the topology, shape and size of the structure. The discussion includes optimization of plane, plate and three dimensional shell structures.

Topology Optimization and Optimal Shape Design Using Homogenizationmulation obtained by homogenization is used, whereby perforated composite materials are admitted as structural components. This approach has the advantage of placing no implicit restriction on the topology of the design. We compare our results with those of Bendsoe, Kikuchi, and Suzuki who used an approach similar to ours.
