It provides a newperspective on post-59 Cuban literature that underlines how cultural policyhas made literature a hybrid activity between elite and mass culture, withinherent social, rather than aesthetic or political, value. Whilst manytraditional studies of Cuban literature assume either its subjugation topolitics and ideology or, conversely, its role in resisting politicaldiscourse via a rather naïve notion of artistic freedom, this project exploresthe varied, dynamic and multiple ways in which literature works in Cubansociety: as a catalyst for identity construction aimed at consensus and belonging, but also as an instrument of self-differentiation and self-definition, even inthe more recent context of a more market-oriented system. The study reviewspolicy from 1959 to the present, and presents contemporary casestudiesexploring the social functions of literature for writers, readers and ordinaryHavana residents. . | 出版日期 | Book 2016 | 关键词 | Cuba; Revolution; Identity; Narrative; well-being; Americas; culture; history; identity; intellectual studies | 版次 | 1 | doi | https://doi.org/10.1057/978-1-137-55940-1 | isbn_softcover | 978-1-349-72028-6 | isbn_ebook | 978-1-137-55940-1 | copyright | The Editor(s) (if applicable) and The Author(s) 2016 |
