Modeling the Dissipation Rate in Rotating Turbulent Flowsshear flow in a rotating frame. It is demonstrated that these modifications do not yield substantially improved predictions for these two test cases and in many instances give rise to unphysical behavior. An alternative proposal, based on the use of the tensor dissipation rate, is made for the development of improved models.

On the Complexity of Turbulence Near a WallIt is argued that the basic building block element of the near wall turbulence can be isolated in a small region of space (minimal flow unit). When the size of the domain is taken into account, the dimension becomes more manageable.

Mapping Closures for Turbulent Mixing and Reaction-point pdf’s of the turbulent field and the surrogate field are identical. Consequently, at the level of closure, the two fields are indistinguishable. The closure assumption made is that the unknown statistics of the turbulent field are equal to those of the known surrogate field.

Lumley’s Podt Definition of Large Eddies and a Trio of Numerical Procedures and those obtained from the dynamical equations. The ultimate goal of improved engineering design tools for turbulence may be near at hand, partly due to the power and storage of “super-” microcomputer workstations finally becoming adequate for the demanding numerics of these procedures.
