Monomolecular Films and Membrane Structure,re and mixed monomolecular films. As in bilayers and membranes these probes exhibit perturbation and immiscibility phenomena which should be taken into account when investigating membrane structure. While the perturbations of any individual probe may be small, they appear to be significant where bilayer profiles are concerned.

Phase Transitions, Protein Aggregation and Membrane Fluidity, immobile due to the presence of cholesterol (2) or protein (3) and in some instances, both. With unsupplemented and supplemented membranes, at least some of the lipid at the growth temperature of the cell is in a “crystalline” packing arrangement (4,5).

Phospholipid Metabolism in Some Excitable Biological Membranes, in the membrane of transmitter vesicles from brain synaptosomes. Electrical stimulation of synaptosomes caused rapid breakdown of this phosphatidylinositol and of phosphatidic acid in another sub-synaptosomal membrane fraction. Possible functions of these lipids in transmitter release are discussed.

Some Topological and Dynamic Aspects of Lipids in the Erythrocyte Membrane,thin species between the two pools or sides of the membrane may be possible..Electron microscopic studies demonstrated that the enlargement of erythrocytes in patients with cholestasis is due to a fusion of abnormal plasma lipoprotein with the red cell membrane, resulting in an increased content of lecithin and cholesterol.
