,‘Sausage string’ patterns in blood vessels at high blood pressures, the conditions under which the normal cylindrical geometry of a blood vessel becomes unstable. The theory explains key features observed experimentally, e.g. the limited occurrence of the sausage-string pattern to small arteries and large arterioles, and only in those with small wall-to-lumen ratios.

On the role of molecular machines in the origin of the genetic code,nd relate them to transport properties. We show that, within an extraterrestrial pre-biotic scenario, the conditions for locomotion of such polymers with a slowing down every three monomers are very likely. We argue that this kinematic property may be at the origin of the three base codon composition.

A population dynamics approach to biological aging,petition is modeled through a Verhulst-like factor. Discrete time evolution equations are iterated and the transient and asymptotic solutions are obtained. When only bad mutations are taken into account, the stationary solutions are obtained analytically. The results are applied to the Penna model.
