A Dilation Problem in Non-Equilibrium Statistical Mechanics,We reformulate one of the fundamental questions of quantum non-equilibrium statistical mechanics, as the problem of constructing the minimal conservative dilation of a dissipative von Neumann dynamical system. We indicate how the concepts of generalized K-flows and of dynamical entropy pertain to the solution of this problem.
