描述Bone is a sex hormone-dependent organ, which has importantimplications for current therapeutic strategies in theprevention and possible treatment ofbone loss in theelderly. This book contains the proceedings of the ScheringWorkshop on "Sex Steroids and Bone." The various chaptersbyleading experts give and overall view of current knowledgeon thecontrol of bone hemostasis by sex steroids and newideas on how this controlcould be exerted. It was also ofparticular concern to integrate a generalsurvey of in vivoexperimentation and histomorphometric evaluation of bonetissue. The organizers of the workshop and editors of thisvolumehope that it will contribute to a betterunderstanding of the role of sex steroids in bone and thuspave the way for a better experimental approach instudyingdrug effects on bone with the ultimate goal of improvingtherapy in bone diseases.

Histomorphometric Studies of Bone Changes in Ovariectomized Rats and Their Prevention by Estrogen Res osteopenic changes in OVX rats and the bone-protective effect of estrogen replacement, as determined by histomorphometric techniques. The skeletal effects of estrogen depletion and replacement in OVX rats are compared briefly to those in postmenopausal and oophorectomized women.
