The Anatomical Organization of the Primate Auditory Pathways, ochlea and the cerebral cortex. Bipolar perikarya of the primary neurons form the spiral ganglion and are part of the peripheral nervous system. Well-defined nuclei in the central nervous system include the cochlear nuclei, superior olivary complex, ventral nucleus of the lateral lemniscus, dorsal n

Structural and Functional Aspects of the Superior Colliculus in Primates,y difficult and challenging task. It has been known for over a century that stimulation of the colliculus produces eye movements (Adamuk, 1870), but no experimental design has yielded an adequate answer to the question of the exact functional role of the colliculus.

The Organization of Visual Cortex in Primates,em for neuroscientists. It has been clear that for each sensory system the cortex contains a number of interrelated parts or areas, but it has been difficult to determine the exact number, location, and interconnections of the cortical areas of a system in any mammal. Differences in histological str

The Relevance of Endocasts for Studying Primate Brain Evolution, primates, however, i.e., pongids and hominids, have a notorious reputation for not being too faithful in leaving solid, interpretable evidence on the surface of their endocasts. Whether this is because they are relatively large-brained creatures or simply phyletically perverse and spiteful in charac

The Relevance of Endocasts for Studying Primate Brain Evolution, ions, is unknown at present. Certainly the first factor, large brain size, is in all likelihood paramount. In any event, except for a . exceptional cases in both chimpanzees and humans, the cortical gyri and sulci are covered by thick meninges and usually do not imprint their forms on the internal table of bone of the cranium.
