An experiment using two mini-humbuckers shows that 3–4 of the 20 possible tones are too close to others to be considered unique, but that the spread and resolution of tones are considerably greater than for a standard 3-way switch.

Common Connection Point Humbucking Circuits with Odd and Even Numbers of Matched Single-Coil Pickuphumbucking output selections over all the pole configurations can have many duplicates and number 2, 24, 200, 1440, and 9632, respectively. All the numbers tend to rise exponentially with the number of pickups.
