Why do kids muck about in class?,fore truancy must be seen as an extreme action; ‘dolling off’ as less extreme; ‘mucking about’ as a major activity and ‘not paying attention’ as endemic. The way in which such ‘misbehaviour’ is viewed in the contemporary period is also important.

Why bother to do research?,arch on education, I went to school. Sociologists seem to find that experience of no significance in approaching education. In retrospect, after I had finished my research I could see a number of points where it greatly affected my approach.

Why do kids get into trouble on the street?,kids took part in was ‘doing nothing’, a phrase I had to learn to retranslate from its commonsense meaning. Within our own lives, leisure revolves around concrete action; we must realise that for these boys action has to be understood in entirely different ways.

Introduction,ok it becomes obvious that there appears to be a surfeit of books about this topic already. The major reaction to the subject would be an uninterested glance from the general public and a groan of horror from those learning the sociology of education at yet another book on the reading list.
