Numerical phenetic taxonomy and its heuristic aspectsies is recommended. The capability of numerical taxonomy to reveal new knowledge is explored. It could lead to recognition of multiple correlations hidden in the data, to ordination of populations, and the use of phenetic descriptors in defining multidimensional niches.

Combining molecular and morphological analyses of Bilateria leads to a tree with Platyhelminthes, Rotifera, Acanthocephala and Gnathostomulida (and probably Gastrotricha) as a sister group to the annelid-mollusc lineage of the Spiralia (Lophotrochozoa).
