描述Sexual reproduction is the predominant mode of perpetuation for flowering plant species. Investigating the reproductive strategies of plants has grown to become a vast area of research and, in crop plants, covers events from flowering to fruit and seed development; in wild species, it extends up to seed dispersal and seedling recruitment. Thus, reproduction determines the extent of yield in crop plants and, in wild plants, also determines the efficacy of recruiting new adults to the population, making this field important both from fundamental and applied plant biology perspectives. Moreover, in light of the growing concerns regarding food and nutritional security for the growing population and preserving biological diversity, reproductive biology of flowering plants has acquired special significance. Extensive studies on various facets of reproduction are being carried out around the world. However, these studies are scattered across research journals and reviews from diverse areas of biology..The present volume covers the whole spectrum of reproductive ecology, from phenology and floral biology, to sexuality and pollination biology/ecology including floral rewards, breeding syste

The Pistil: Structure in Relation to Its Function,e female gametophyte, designated as the embryo sac, is located inside the ovule. The pistil is the recipient of the pollen and a conduit for the transport of the male gametes through the pollen tubes into the embryo sac. The most important outcome on the structure of the pistil in relation to its fu

Olfactory Cues as Functional Traits in Plant Reproduction, cting pollinators, repelling florivores or herbivores, as well as controlling the growth of pathogens. Therefore, floral volatiles are under constant selection to balance attraction and repellence in accordance with local communities and this has led to the evolution of highly complex volatile profi

A Snapshot of Evolutionary History of Floral Nectaries Across Angiosperm Lineages, sperms cannot be ruled out. However, scattered information limits our present understanding of its direct role in driving floral evolution. We looked into the distribution pattern of the floral nectary to ascertain its evolutionary history across angiosperm phylogeny (APG IV). The analysis indicates

,Floral Symmetry – What It Is, How It Forms, and Why It Varies, flower. Floral symmetry varies across angiosperms; the states range from symmetrical (polysymmetrical, disymmetrical and monosymmetrical) to asymmetrical, with the polysymmetrical form perhaps being the most common state. The development of different states of symmetry has been widely studied at th

Dynamics of Eco-Evolutionary Forces in Shaping Dioecy, gender determination mechanisms, it is equally important to understand the contextual framework of eco-evolutionary forces that are instrumental in shaping dioecy in general. The theoretical framework of evolution of dioecy is well-argued in literature. Several empirical studies have indicated ecolo
