Evaluating and modeling communication overhead of MPI primitives on the Meiko CS-2,on the size of messages exchanged and the number of involved processors. Finally, the MPI performance results on the CS-2 are compared with the performance of the Meiko Elan Widget library and the IBM SP2.

Improving the PVM daemon network performance by direct network access,/IP. The DNA includes a non-polling receive mechanism, an efficient mutual exclusion mechanism and a shared buffer management scheme, thus enabling operation in a time sharing environment. The paper describes the DNA and its integration in the PVM daemon, and presents performance results, which amount to a latency reduction of 18% for PVM tasks.

Harness: The next generation beyond PVM, extend a virtual machine‘s features to more closely match the needs of their application and to optimize for the underlying computer resources. This paper will describe the architecture and core services of this new virtual machine paradigm, our progress on this project, and our experiences with early prototypes of Harness.
