Radiation Belts of the Earth,ut since the 1950s have shown the existence of radiation belts, containing energetic particles trapped in the geomagnetic field, so-called Earth’s Radiation Belts (ERB). The radiation belts consist principally of electrons of up to a few MeV and of protons of up to several hundred MeV.

All those data form the basis for the development of numerous models for SEP events and for the elaboration the forecast techniques on different time scales (Chapter 7).

Dynamics of Galactic Cosmic Rays,esized in stars, are primaries. Nuclei such as lithium, beryllium, and boron (which are not abundant end products of stellar nucleosynthesis) are secondaries. Antiprotons and positrons are partly, if not entirely, secondaries, but the fraction of these particles that may be primary is a question of current interest.
