The Stochastic Master Equation: Part Iapter generalises to this framework the theory developed in Chap. 2 and it extends the results to the case of incomplete measurements. Now, the key notions are “statistical operator”, “stochastic master equation”, “master equation” and “quantum dynamical (or Markov) semigroup”.

Continuous Measurements and Instrumentscteristic operator, a kind of Fourier transform of the instruments, we show that it satisfies an evolution equation, in some sense similar to a master equation, and we show how to obtain explicit formulae for the moments of the output by means of this characteristic operator.
