描述.This book highlights quantitative risk assessment and modeling methods for assessing health risks caused by air pollution, as well as characterizing and communicating remaining uncertainties. It shows how to apply modern data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, causal analytics, mathematical modeling, and risk analysis to better quantify human health risks caused by environmental and occupational exposures to air pollutants. The adverse health effects that are caused by air pollution, and preventable by reducing it, instead of merely being statistically associated with exposure to air pollution (and with other many conditions, from cold weather to low income) have proved to be difficult to quantify with high precision and confidence, largely because correlation is not causation. This book shows how to use recent advances in causal analytics and risk analysis to determine more accurately how reducing exposures affects human health risks. .Quantitative Risk Analysis of Air Pollution Health Effects .is divided into three parts. Part I focuses mainly on quantitative simulation modelling of biological responses to exposures and resulting health risks. It considers oc

Simulating Exposure-Related Health Effects: Basic Ideasding the underlying systems of equations used to model biological responses to exposures to inhaled respirable crystalline silica (Chap. .) and asbestos (Chap. .) and highlighting the importance of nonlinearities in these responses for risk assessment and risk management (Chap. .).

Case Study: Occupational Health Risks from Crystalline Silicaated two-stage clonal expansion (I-TSCE) model of RCS-induced lung cancer that explains why relatively low estimated concentrations of RCS (e.g., <1 mg/m.) do not increase lung cancer risk and why even high occupational concentrations increase risk only modestly (typically RR < 2). The model of chro

Nonlinear Dose-Time-Response Risk Models for Protecting Worker HealthKey conclusions are that (1) For RCS, but not asbestos, limiting average (TWA) exposure concentrations also tightly constrains internal doses and ability to trigger chronic inflammation and resulting increases in disease risks; (2) For asbestos, excursions (i.e., spikes in concentrations) and especi

Why Not Replace Quantitative Risk Assessment Models with Regression Models?he quantitative causal relationships between reductions in exposures and resulting reductions in health risks. Part 3 will apply these lessons specifically to air pollution and public health, with greatest emphasis on National Ambient Aie Quality Standards (NAAQS) for fine particulate matter (PM2.5)

Clarifying Exposure-Response Regression Coefficients with Bayesian Networks: Blood Lead-Mortality Aso not necessarily reveal the extent to which reducing exposure-related variables (e.g., BLL) alone, while leaving fixed other correlates of exposure and mortality risks (e.g., education, income etc.) would reduce adverse outcome risks (e.g., mortality risks). This chapter illustrates how BN structur
