Present Trends in Luminescence Research,is appears to be on cooperative effects at high intensities of excitation. Complex associated defects are increasingly investigated. Luminescent properties of magnetic materials and of amorphous substances are being studied. In general, the research is becoming more sophisticated, both in concepts and techniques, but is also becoming more applied.

Historical Survey of Studies of the Optical Properties of Ions in Solids,gy transfer between ions is noted; and finally ion pairs and multiphoton transitions are reviewed. The principal emphasis is on radiative transitions between electronic states, both optical absorption and luminescent emission, with attention both to the evolution of concepts and to recent experimental methods.

Some Problems of the Vibrational Structure of Optical Spectra of Impurities in Solids,ften about 10. and may be even more..Two problems are discussed in this treatment: (1) the no-phonon lines and phonon wings in various impurity spectra of solids; (2) the inhomogeneous broadening of luminescence spectra.
