Vadim Dimitrievitch Vladykov: life of an ichthyologistJanuary 1986 after having lived in his retirement apartment up until his last day. He was 87 years old. Surviving are his two daughters, Nadya Clowes and Kyra Fisher, and four grandchildren. His beloved wife, Nina Formagie, who he married in 1938, predeceased him on the 19th of December 1976.

Shark attacks in the rivers of southern Iranriod 1953 to 1985. Hie species of shark responsible is probably the bull shark, Carcharhinus leucas, whose presence in the Tigris River is confirmed by preserved specimens in the British Museum (Natural History). The Iranian records represent a significant proportion (~28%) of the documented cases world-wide for unprovoked, freshwater attacks.

The last meetinge annual meeting of the Canadian Conference for Fisheries Research and Eugene insisted we should see Vadim who was in failing health. The look of satisfaction on Vadim’s face when told about the plans to put together this anthology in honour of his 90th birthday would be the highlight of our visit.
