Introduction,Femtosecond filaments are narrow self-confined beams of laser light maintaining their beam diameters over distances widely exceeding the classical Rayleigh range of a laser beam. Such a self-organized, filamentary structure of light and free electric charges emerges when pulsed femtosecond laser radiation is focused into a gas cell.
