Thepurpose of this book is to provide in a single volume, majoralgorithmic aspects and applications of NAPs as contributed by leadinginternational experts. .The chapters included in this book are concerned with majorapplications and the latest algorithmic solution approaches for NAPs.Approximation algorithms, polyhedral methods, semidefinite programmingapproaches and heuristic procedures for NAPs are included, whileapplications of this problem class in the areas of multiple-targettracking in the context of military surveillance systems, ofexperimental high energy physics, and of parallel processing arepresented. ..Audience:. Multi Index Assignment Problems: Complexity, Approximation, Applications,ty and approximability issues for . of MIAPs. We feel that investigating special cases of MIAPs is an important topic since real-world instances almost always posses a certain structure that can be exploited when it comes to solving them.

The Nonlinear Assignment Problem in Experimental High Energy Physics,developed for a specific High Energy Physics experiment (ALEPH), the approach presented here is general enough to extend, with only little additional modeling effort, to other multiple-target tracking applications with similar operational requirements.

Polyhedral Methods for the QAP,scriptions of the most important polyhedral results that are known about the QAP, explanations of the techniques that are used to prove such results, and a discussion of the practical results obtained by cutting plane algorithms that exploit the polyhedral knowledge. We close by some remarks on the perspectives of this kind of approach to the QAP.
