Experimental Measurement of the Drag Coefficientslocation of known Burgers vector is determined by measurement of the viscous force at a known dislocation velocity, or by measurement of the energy dissipation brought about by the viscous force. We discuss here these measurements and explore the special conditions which make possible the determination of the drag coefficient.

Microscopic Mechanisms of Dislocation DragDislocation drag effects are reviewed. It is found that drag effects are well enough understood to conclude that dislocation generation rates, rather than dislocation velocities, provide the rate-limiting step under high strain-rate conditions.
