Reversibility of Damage to Rat Cerebellar Purkinje Cells Following Ischemia, ayer, swollen Purkinje cell axons were seen from 3-h through 4-day specimens. The results indicate that dark cell change is, at least partially, a reversible type of ischemic damage. The morphological difference found here may be a reflection of the diversity in receptor subtype distribution.

Role of Neuroexcitation in Maturation of Postischemic and Posttraumatic Injury, euronal injury was characterized histologically by loss of the Nissl substance, peripheral vacuolization of neuronal cytoplasm or hyperchromasia, and accentuated staining of neuronal processes. Rats sacrificed 1 year following global ischemia showed considerable neuronal survival in the CA1 sector o

Importance of Postischemic Neurotransmission in Delayed Neuronal Death, ions and changes in membrane lipid composition and structure stimulate translocation of protein kinase C (PKC) from the cytosol to the cell membranes, while later in the reperfusion phase PKC is downregulated. This may lead to an enhanced AMPA receptor activation of voltage operated ion channels in

Protein Synthesis and Calcium Uptake Following Complete Cerebral Ischemia of Rat Brain, suppressed for 1 day postischemia paralleled by an enormous in vivo 45Ca uptake in the reticular thalamic nucleus but a moderate one in the other brain regions. Metabolic changes were accompanied by a definite loss of neurons of the reticular thalamic nucleus whereas cell alterations in the other m
