Living with Writersriters are dinosaurs in the figurative sense. The dictionary spells it out like this: ‘fig. Something that has not adapted to changing circumstances, a clumsy survival from earlier times.’ And here I am, a survivor at seventy, writing this with a pen, in a house not only devoid of e-mail or DVD, but even of a word-processor.

The Open Doorridge Finals. I married my first love. Then I sat down to write my first novel, A Summer Bird-Cage, while expecting my first baby. So the subject of marriage was much in my mind as I began my career in fiction.

Margaret illustrated journal is now being compiled in a hard-bound A5 notebook. I also keep a ‘Log’, which is stored on the computer and in print-out form. The ‘Log’ details my writing life, and currently amounts to some 215 close-printed pages.
