Colloidal Particles of Complex Topology in Nematics,ar surface anchoring. We present experiments with colloidal handlebodies,knot- and link-shaped microparticles, Koch-star colloids, spiraling and ribbed rods in the nematics. Theoretical predictions for the topology of a nematic liquid crystal around non-orientable surfaces, such as a Möbius strip, are discussed as well.

Nematic Microdroplets, Shells and Handlebodies,e chiral nematic microdroplets with perpendicular surface anchoring, where knots and links were predicted. We show experimental results on these droplets, which show elastically assembled point defects, skyrmions, and torons in a liquid microsphere. Nematic shells and handlebodies are briefly discussed from the topological standpoint.
