The Thermodynamics of Black Holes,om black holes, the generalized second law, and the issue of entropy bounds. A brief survey also is given of approaches to the calculation of black hole entropy. We conclude with a discussion of some unresolved open issues.

Large , Field Theories, String Theory and Gravity, theory on Anti-de Sitter spaces and conformal field theories. We review the background for this correspondence and discuss its motivations and the evidence for its correctness. We describe the main results that have been derived from the correspondence in the regime that the field theory is approxim

Thermaldecay of the Cosmological Constant into Black Holes, ver the top of the potential barrier,” rather than tunneling through it. The membranes are endowed with charge associated with the gauge invariance of an antisymmetric gauge potential. In this new process, the membrane collapses into a black hole; thus, the net effect is to produce black holes out o

, with the following research questions as guidance: Is it possible to define what mathematical contents a blind student can or cannot study? If one answers yes for this question, then I ask: Who defines it? In order to discuss this subject, the paper includes four sections. The first features short
