描述Health and mental health organizations are undergoing majorchanges in policies, procedures, structures, and emphasis. Many ofthese changes appear related to what may be termed the managed carerevolution. This upheaval in delivery systems related to health andmental health care has been associated with great changes and rapidturnover in leaders and in leadership positions. It appears that manyleaders are not able to lead their organizations into this or othernew territories. .The purpose of this book is to describe stages that organizations gothrough as they move rapidly to adapt to new and sometimes unwantedchanges. The emphasis is on the aspects of leaders and of leadershipthat appear tied to successful or unsuccessful outcomes fororganizations in the midst of these rapid changes. Particularchallenges and expectations that are likely to be present inorganizations and in individuals facing change are described. Methodsare presented that might be employed by leaders to confront variousdifficulties in order to direct successful outcomes for themselves, asleaders, and for their organizations.
