Negation,subject is situated in [Spec, IP] or [Spec, VP] is resolved by its location relative to the negative element. Following Pollock (1989) and Zanutinni (1989), among others, I assume that the negative element is either a VP-adjunct or in [Spec, NegP] and that its position to the left of the verb is fixed.

Null Subjects,that the null subject property of French child language can be distinguished from that of English child language, both in terms of the sources fOT null subjects and in terms of the behavior of null subjects over the course of development.

A Comparative Look at Spanish Acquisition,eras’ (1987) claim that the ordering of [Spec, VP] and V’ in underlying structure is free in Spanish. Overall, however, the pattern of constructions found in early Spanish child language nicely paralleis the findings for French and English detailed above.

Pronominal Subjects,language, further examining the behavior of subject pronouns. Finally, patterns in the distribution of these pronouns in French are shown to contrast with the distribution of subject pronouns in English child language.

Language Change,ination of one child language alone. As it turns out, English and French also present an interesting opportunity for comparison in terms of diachronic processes. And I would like to argue (perhaps not so originally) that findings in acquisition can provide answers to some of the questions that arise in the study of language change.
