Landforms Determined by Tectonics,e earth’s crust. Therefore, wherever tectonic plates are colliding earth’s largest, more or less folded ranges of high mountains are arising as mountain chains. These are for example: the Alps, the Himalaya, the Andes, the Rocky Mountains, the Caucasus, or the central mountains of Papua New Guinea.
