Books to Instruct 1950 and 1953,the second . (1953)., both published by E. & S. Livingstone Ltd (now Churchill Livingstone) of Edinburgh and London. These contain many of the ideas which were included in his papers, but the two books are important because they allowed Charnley space in which to expound his personal opinions.

Turning Points 1957 and 1958,y this was so and why the conditions which he had hoped for when he returned from the Army were not fulfilled. Money was short in hospitals and universities in the 1950s and this made it difficult for him to obtain the facilities which he needed for his research.
