Achieving Understanding in Intercultural Interaction explores another important aspect of communication — ‘relational’ meaning — how people’s use of language may lead to judgements such as polite, offensive, encouraging, annoying and so on, and thus how interpersonal rapport can be managed in intercultural interaction.
