Biological vision systemsmuli, and psychological testing of humans in which subjects are shown a specific visual stimulus and are then asked to explain their perception of that stimulus. Although much of this research is not recent, it forms the basis of most artificial vision systems presently under development.

Connectionist approach to artificial visionpattern recognition and vision were discussed, finishing with the neocognitron and HAVNET networks which were specifically designed for visual pattern recognition. In this chapter, three biologically based connectionist models of the human vision system will be presented, each of which employs neural networks as component parts.
