Towards a Socially Adaptive Virtual Agent of social attitude is perceived by the users and impacts on the evaluation of the agent’s credibility. We also found that while the emotion expression of the virtual agent has an immediate impact on the user’s experience, the impact of the virtual agent’s attitude expression’s impact is stronger after a few speaking turns.

Beyond Believability: Quantifying the Differences Between Real and Virtual Humansbenchmark and show how a theoretical framework based on perceptions of mind can shed light into these systems. We also discuss a few important cases where it is better if virtual humans do . pass the benchmark. We discuss implications for the design of virtual agents that can be as natural and efficient to interact with as real humans.

On Conversational Agents with Mental Statesant limitation of conversation trees is that the resulting behaviour of the ECAs is often perceived as predictable. To provide ECAs with more sophisticated behaviour, the current paper proposes an approach to endow them with mental states. The approach is illustrated by a motivational example in the domain of aggression de-escalation training.
