描述This book constitutes the proceedings of the 15th International Conference on Intelligent Virtual Agents, IVA 2015, held in Delft, The Netherlands, in August 2015. The 11 full papers, 22 short papers, and 21 demo and poster papers accepted were carefully reviewed and selected from 70 submissions. Constructing and studying intelligent virtual agents requires knowledge , theories, methods, and tools from a wide range of fields such as computer science, psychology, cognitive sciences, communication, linguistics, interactive media, human-computer interaction, and artificial intelligence. The papers are organized in topical sections such as adaptive dialogue and user modeling; cognitive, affective and social models; nonverbal behavior and gestures; pedagogical agents in health and training; tools and frameworks; turn-taking; virtual agent perception studies.

An Ontology-Based Question System for a Virtual Coach Assisting in Trauma Recollectiontance of a virtual coach. One of the main challenges for such a coach is assisting patients with recollecting their traumatic memories, a vital part of therapy. In this paper, an ontology-based question system capable of posing appropriate and personalized questions is presented. This method was tes

Adapting Virtual Patient Interviews for Interviewing Skills Training of Novice Healthcare Studentsovice healthcare students in interviewing skills. We outline a method for identifying topics about which novices are likely to ask by reviewing previous transcripts of novice interactions, and results indicate that the method was successful in such identification. Additionally, we examine the possib

Virtual Suspect Williamthm is based on a cognitive model - the response model - that is centred around keeping track of interpersonal relations. The model is parametrized in such a way that different personalities of the virtual suspect can be defined. In the evaluation we defined three different personalities and had par

Modeling a Social Brain for Interactive Agents: Integrating Mirroring and Mentalizingften described as part of the “social brain”: the mirror system for recognizing intentional behavior and the mentalizing (theory of mind) system for processing it. We equip virtual agents with both systems and model their interaction during embodied communication. Results of simulation experiments d

Towards Adaptive, Interactive Virtual Humans in Sigma Sigma-based virtual human (VH) is introduced that combines probabilistic reasoning, rule-based decision-making, Theory of Mind, Simultaneous Localization and Mapping and reinforcement learning in a unified manner. This non-modular unification of diverse cognitive, robotic and VH capabilities provid
