Flow Transitions in Rayleigh-BÉnard Convection: Influence of Heating Rateide walls are considered. The flow transition consists of an abrupt change in the rotation sense of two counter rotating rolls and can be attributed to a thermal boundary condition competition. This transition agrees qualitatively with recent experimental results.

Pattern formation and phase turbulence in the transverse section of lasersiodic modulation in space and time. The measured electric field amplitude is modulated by both effects. As consequence the laser intensity is locally chaotic on short time scales but the time average intensity patterns retains the global symmetry of the system. We compare our studies of the Maxwell-Bloch equations with recent experimental results.
