The physical world offers as much wonder as any mind can deal with. Whoever speaks of anything as “only physical” is not sensing very much of what there is in the world to experience. Within Ourselves,all the way around Jupiter. The strain is showing. Cracks have appeared, seemingly filled with muddier material that has oozed up from deeper levels. The effect, to distant human eyes and minds, is appealing.

Up and Down,ugh, though, to have caused fellow travelers in the asteroid belt to swerve if their pathways have come close, and sometimes to crash to the surface, making craters and also the dust that covers the surface. Gravity’s influence may be relatively small here, but it reaches out all the same from the asteroid’s surface into the surrounding void.

Known and Unknown,not, at least approximately, a sphere. For anything else of the same size, gravity has pulled and crushed material so that surface irregularities are small compared with the whole body. But Hyperion is one big irregularity, in every way.
