Depth and Perversity,otopy and rational cohomology are related to the classical theorem of Lefschetz on hyperplane sections. The analogy between topology and commutative algebra led A. Grothendieck to formulate several conjectures which appear to be true (see [H-L]).

A lower bound for the size of monodromy of systems of ordinary differential equations,ld have been purely conjectural, but in the months after the conference I have been able to give the proof in the rank two case. I apologize for this somewhat tenuous connection between my talk and the material presented here.

Poincare Polynomials of Some Moduli Varieties,pace M(n,d) when (n,d) = l, and also show that there is no torsion in the cohomology in this case. Let N be the smooth compactification of M(2,0).O. (the stable bundles with detE ≅ O.) constructed in [S]. In [B-S], an approach modelled on [A-B] was studied and this gave only partial success in the computation of the cohomology of N.
