Optical Receivers,This chapter concentrates on receivers intended for the direct detection of digital data consisting of a stream of light pulses, where the presence and the absence of a pulse correspond to the transmission of a binary mark and space, respectively. The block diagram of a basic telecommunications receiver is depicted in Fig. 8.1.
