Methods of Monitoring Groundwater Radon,In this chapter, we will present methods of monitoring groundwater radon including groundwater sampling and radon determination. Radon distributions in groundwater near an active fault are discussed. The application of groundwater radon for earthquake prediction research is also briefly reviewed.

Anomalous Radon Decline at Antung Hot Spring Before the 2003 Mw 6.8 Chengkung Earthquake,ore the 1978 Izu-Oshima-Kinkai earthquake in Japan. Both observations at Antung and Izu suggest that the groundwater radon, when monitored at suitable geological sites, can be a sensitive tracer for strain changes in the crust preceding an earthquake.
